Working from home can be difficult, especially when you don’t have a designated workspace. Many people who have worked in offices all their life struggle to adapt to the home environment, with all its many distractions, and find that they can’t focus if they work at the kitchen table or in a desk in a bedroom.

This isn’t surprising – there are psychological reasons why you need that kind of separation between home and office. Luckily, we’ve come up with a solution for you: use your garage!

Why use a garage?

Many people have garages that they don’t use. They will park on the driveway, and the garage just becomes a dumping ground for stuff that’s halfway between belonging in the house and being taken to the tip. If you have a cleanout of the garage and spruce it up correctly, it could become your new office space.

How to decorate

You will need to make some changes to your garage before it is fit for use as an office space.

Flooring

Firstly, look at the garage flooring. If you’re using the space all day, putting furniture on it, and rolling wheelie chairs across it, you’re going to want stronger flooring than usual. Our own Garagetuff MMA resin is the optimum choice to protect your flooring from any castor-related damage (among other things). It is significantly more protective than both floor paint and epoxy resin and can be ready in as little as 45 minutes.

Walls

Your walls will probably be ok as they are – exposed brick is quite chic, after all – but you might want to add some pictures to them to brighten the place up.

Lighting

Speaking of brightening the place up, you will need lighting. You probably won’t have any natural light in your garage, so try to add a few lamps around to give it an atmospheric feel.

Furniture

Less is more when it comes to your garage office furniture. Install a desk, a wheelie chair, and some filing if necessary.

WiFi

The only other thing left to think about is WiFi. Hopefully, your garage will be able to connect to your home router. If you are having trouble with this, try to move your router closer to your new home office. If you can’t do that either, you could think about a mobile hotspot or buying an unlimited data plan.

Once that’s all set up, your garage office is good to go!
